Refer to OSH Answers&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ise.ncsu.edu\/processes\/equipment\/metalworking-machines\/\">Metalworking Machines \u2013 General<\/a>&nbsp;for general safety tips.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Cold cutting saws include hand and powered hacksaws, band saws, and horizontal and vertical circular saws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"is-style-default wp-block-heading\">What are some basic safety principles to follow?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wear appropriate safety glasses.<\/li><li>Ensure the saw has a start\/stop button within easy reach of the operator.<\/li><li>Ensure that all guards are in place and working properly.<\/li><li>Guard long material at both ends to prevent anyone from coming into contact with it.<\/li><li>Ensure that the blade is completely stopped before removing the stock.<\/li><li>Use cutting or lubricating fluid when cutting metals.<\/li><li>Keep saw blades clean and sharp. Check blades regularly for wear or damage.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"434\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/ise.ncsu.edu\/processes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2014\/01\/metal-saws-cold-01.jpg\" alt=\"Parts of a horizontal band saw\" class=\"wp-image-587\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Select the correct blade and saw speed for the material being cut. Follow the manufacturer\u2019s instructions.<\/li><li>Use the stop gauge supplied with most cut-off saws when several pieces of the same length are required.<\/li><li>Secure all work in a vise.
