The Virtual and Augmented Reality Lab is deeply committed to engaging the community through exciting and innovative projects. Specifically, these projects focus on using virtual and augmented reality (VR\/AR) technologies to solve real-world problems. By offering hands-on experiences, the lab not only helps students and educators but also supports professionals in exploring the possibilities of VR and AR across various fields. Ultimately, these initiatives aim to inspire new ways of thinking and problem-solving through immersive technology.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Summer 2019 <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This summer, through the Imhotep Academy of The Science House at NCSU, VARL hosted an exciting outreach event for middle school students. During this event, we showcased our virtual reality (VR) technology, allowing students to experience immersive VR through our Cave Automated Virtual Environment (CAVE). Over forty students participated, gaining hands-on experience with VR. They virtually explored a medieval castle, searched for hidden treasures, and discovered secret rooms!

This outreach activity provided students with a unique opportunity to see how VR can bring learning to life and spark curiosity about technology. Moreover, it demonstrated the potential of VR in making education more interactive. We are especially grateful to all VARL lab members who supported this event. Without your hard work, this outreach would not have been possible. Looking ahead, we are excited about more opportunities to engage with young learners and inspire the next generation of innovators.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Summer 2018 <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This summer, VARL partnered with Imhotep Academy of The Science House at NCSU for a fun and educational outreach event. As a result, over forty middle school students visited VARL and had the opportunity to experience virtual reality (VR) technology in our Cave Automated Virtual Environment (CAVE).

During the event, students explored a medieval castle virtually, searching for treasures and unlocking secret rooms. This immersive experience not only introduced them to VR technology but also gave them valuable hands-on exposure to its potential. Furthermore, the outreach highlighted how VR can make learning both interactive and engaging. Ultimately, this event showcased the exciting possibilities of using VR to enhance education and inspire future innovators.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
