Bio

Darryl Thomas III studies Industrial Engineering with a minor in Psychology. His interests include Human Factors and Ergonomics and consulting. Thomas grew up in Greenville, North Carolina.

Outside the classroom, Thomas serves in the Chancellor’s Aide program and works as a Resident Advisor in the Engineering Village. He also participates in the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers and the National Society of Black Engineers. In his free time, Thomas enjoys playing chess and pickleball.

Thomas encourages students to ask questions and become involved. Additionally, he hopes to strengthen the ISE community by sharing his experiences and offering students support and guidance.

Why ISE?

Thomas took a different path to Industrial and Systems Engineering. He originally entered NC State as a Computer Engineering student. However, after his freshman year, he realized he wanted a more hands-on and people-oriented field.

His father encouraged him to explore ISE, which combines engineering, business and optimization. As a result, Thomas discovered a field that matched his interests and goals. He values ISE’s versatility and opportunities to solve real-world problems while working with others.

Why be an Ambassador?

Thomas became an ISE Ambassador to help students find their place within the department. He also wants students to feel confident throughout their college journey.

Through this role, Thomas shares his ISE experiences and helps students discover available resources, opportunities and connections. Additionally, he supports prospective and current students while strengthening ISE’s welcoming community.
