Bio

Vasuki Garg is a Ph.D. student in industrial and systems engineering at NC State. He also pursues a doctoral minor in computer engineering. His academic work combines artificial intelligence, machine learning and optimization to improve complex decision-making.

At NC State, Garg has served as a research assistant, instructor and teaching assistant. He has taught deterministic modeling while helping students develop optimization and analytical problem-solving skills. Additionally, his research experience includes machine learning, reinforcement learning and learning-to-optimize frameworks.

Garg also gained industry experience as an AI research intern with the Global Emancipation Network. There, he developed AI tools to support investigations related to human trafficking. His work included computer vision, natural language processing and risk-scoring systems designed for real-world investigative settings.

Area(s) of Expertise

Garg’s research focuses on applied AI and optimization for complex decision-making. His interests include graph machine learning, multimodal AI, natural language processing, computer vision and reinforcement learning. He also develops learning-to-optimize approaches that connect predictive machine learning with prescriptive operations research.

A major part of Garg’s research applies AI to societal challenges. He has developed graph-based methods that use multiple data sources and natural language processing to identify illicit businesses. His research supports efforts to combat human trafficking and improve investigative decision-making.
