Bio

Yuhan Hu is a Ph.D. student in the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at NC State. She earned her master’s degree in industrial engineering from NC State in 2024.

At NC State, Hu has served as a research assistant, instructor and teaching assistant. She has supported courses in data analytics, statistical modeling, network flows and engineering economics. Additionally, she has taught linear algebra and linear programming to incoming Ph.D. students.

Beyond academics, Hu has held leadership roles with the INFORMS NCSU Student Chapter. She served as secretary before becoming president during the 2024–25 academic year. During her presidency, the chapter earned the INFORMS Cum Laude Award.

Hu’s research focuses on system reliability, prognostics and multimodal artificial intelligence. She uses statistical learning, machine learning and stochastic modeling to predict system performance and failures.

Her work also explores privacy-preserving federated learning for failure-time prediction and federated data fusion for prognostics. Additionally, she studies reasoning, evaluation and calibration in large language and vision-language models.
