Bio

Oscar Fernandez studies Industrial and Systems Engineering at NC State, concentrating in Health Systems Engineering with a minor in Business Administration. He chose NC State for its strong engineering program, student opportunities and supportive Goodnight Scholars Program community.

Fernandez chose industrial engineering because of its versatility and focus on improving systems people use every day. Through his experiences at NC State, he developed a particular interest in healthcare. Specifically, Fernandez hopes to use engineering methods to make healthcare systems more efficient, accessible and effective.

Outside the classroom, Fernandez participates in the Goodnight Scholars Program and SHPE. Additionally, he has pursued opportunities to learn and serve around the world. He studied abroad in South Korea and Rwanda and completed an Alternative Service Break in Puerto Rico. Fernandez will also lead an Alternative Service Break trip to Costa Rica. Through these experiences, he has explored new cultures, built relationships and grown as a student and leader.

Fernandez became an ISE Ambassador to share his experiences and connect with prospective and current students. Most importantly, he wants to help others discover the opportunities available through ISE at NC State.
