Professor Rohan Shirwaiker receives the Distinguished Faculty Advisor Award from SME
SME, an international professional engineering society, has released its 2013-2014 list of award winners and ISE’s own Dr. Rohan Shirwaiker received the Distinguished Faculty Advisor Award.
“I enjoyed working as a SME chapter officer when I was a student myself, and I have tried to carry forward those experiences and that enthusiasm to my role as a faculty advisor,” Said Shirwaiker. “In the true sense, this award is a recognition of the NC State student chapter and the efforts of our student officers and members, rather than an individual achievement.”
The award is offered to student chapter faculty advisors in recognition of their service to SME and their student chapter(s) in advancing manufacturing knowledge, education and SME 2017 Strategic Direction. “SME believes in those who develop manufacturing processes that make everyone’s lives cleaner, brighter, faster and better,” said SME. “We love people who give manufacturing its own brand of cool, bold patents on limitless imagination, help keep global economies running, and research impossibilities and turn them into realities.” To see a list of past winners, click here.
Last semester, Dr. Shirwaiker lead the team of ISE students (Stephen Taylor and Wendy Johnson) as they delivered a cost-saving energy assessment to Kayser-Roth Corp, a hosiery plant in Burlington, N.C. The assessment was part of the Department of Energy’s Industrial Assessment Center program.
