Explore Future Faculty Opportunities in Industrial & Systems Engineering at NC State
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at NC State University is actively exploring future faculty hires in key strategic areas. We are interested in connecting with potential candidates who would like to learn more about future opportunities.
We are particularly excited to meet with candidates with research interest in areas such as:
- Optimization and/or Artificial Intelligence methodologies
- Applied Artificial Intelligence across domains
- Quantum Computing
Ideal candidates will have a strong methodological foundation and may bring expertise that spans these domains across various application areas. This future position may be affiliated with the Applied AI Initiative within the College of Engineering, and we are especially interested in individuals whose work addresses nationally or globally significant challenges.
If you hold (or are completing) a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or a closely related field, and are passionate about impactful, interdisciplinary research and innovative teaching, we’d love to hear from you.

The Position
OPEN RANK TENURED/TENURE TRACK POSITION:
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at NC State University invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position. While preference will be given to early-career scholars (Assistant or Associate Professor), exceptional candidates at the Full Professor level will also be considered. The position aligns with the College of Engineering’s Applied AI Initiative and focuses on advancing research in Artificial Intelligence, Optimization, and Quantum Computing—areas critical to the department’s mission and of national importance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an externally funded research program in AI, Quantum Computing, Optimization, or related areas.
- Conduct original, high-impact research and publish in leading journals and conferences.
- Collaborate across disciplines within NC State and with external partners to address complex engineering challenges.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Industrial and Systems Engineering.
- Mentor and advise graduate students, fostering their academic and professional growth.
- Contribute to departmental, college, and university service activities that support NC State’s mission and values.
