Ashton Sumpter, originally from Lumberton, North Carolina, is pursuing a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at NC State. His passion for ISE stems from personal experiences with natural disasters during childhood, which inspired a commitment to optimizing systems for disaster response and healthcare.
Through ISE, Ashton blends engineering principles with real-world problem-solving to design more efficient and resilient systems. His primary interests lie in data analysis and process improvement, with the goal of enhancing healthcare systems’ responses to emergencies and natural disasters.
Beyond academics, Ashton serves as an ISE Ambassador and is a board member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IISE) club. He is also an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), participates in the Goodnight Scholarship program, and has conducted undergraduate research in the Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics (CAMAL) lab.
