Karen Welton joins the Fitts ISE Department as an executive assistant. In this role, she serves as the “right-hand” of the ISE department head where her responsibilities center around various tasks related to faculty, alumni, donors, and students.
Previously, Welton served as the business services coordinator for the NC State Engineering Foundation. Her responsibilities included:
- Recording all gifts to the College of Engineering
- Working with scholarship awards
- Donor stewardship
- Processing financial transactions
Prior to working at NC State, Welton and her husband, Steve, owned Welton Structural Design – a structural engineering firm in Virginia. After 14 years of running a successful company, they decided to return to Raleigh so that Steve could pursue an opportunity to teach at his alma mater. Like her husband, Welton is a graduate of NC State and she holds a bachelor of arts degree in accounting. She has both a daughter and a son.
