Maya Ortiz

Maya Ortiz is a student majoring in industrial and systems engineering at NC State. She is from Miami, Florida, and chose the university for its strong engineering program and lively student atmosphere.
Beyond her ambassador role, Ortiz serves as a student leader with Cru. In this position, she leads a small group Bible study and mentors young women in their spiritual and personal lives. Additionally, she is a member of the Club Tennis Team and enjoys all sports. She encourages students to step outside their comfort zones and join organizations that interest them. Although she entered NC State without knowing anyone, she views moving to a new state as one of her best decisions.
Ortiz also participated in the UK STEM study abroad program in London, which became the highlight of her college experience. Moreover, she welcomes questions about the ISE program, student life, or study abroad opportunities.
Why ISE?
Ortiz pursued ISE because the degree provides skills that apply to many industries. Furthermore, she has always been drawn to process improvement and problem-solving.
Why be an Ambassador?
As an ISE Ambassador, Ortiz strives to serve as a resource for fellow students. She recognizes how NC State’s resources have helped her thrive as both a student and an individual. Therefore, she hopes to play a similar role in helping others succeed.
