Rhett & Link Dueling Commencement Speeches

NC State Engineering Alums Rhett McLaughlin (Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering – CCEE) and Link Neal (Industrial and Systems Engineering – ISE) delivered the commencement speech at their respective departments this semester. They purposely did not attend each other’s speeches so they could listen to them together, for the first time, on their podcast, Ear Biscuits.

So, What is Industrial and Systems Engineering, Anyway?

Most people know what civil engineers do. But, many people don’t know what industrial and systems engineering is or what these engineers do.

It’s simple. Industrial engineering is about figuring out how to do things better. It combines the physical and social sciences together with engineering principles to improve processes and systems. As a result, industrial engineering is the “people person’s” engineering. Industrial engineers improve quality and productivity while at the same time cutting waste like time, materials, money, and energy.
