The NC State Athletic Department hosted the 2017 Wolfie Awards, a showcase for the best of Wolfpack athletics and academics, and ISE’s scholar-athletes did not disappoint. One of the top awards for the night was the Caterpillar Top-10 Scholar-Athletes which recognizes the student-athletes with the highest GPAs. Of the 10 athletes selected, five were from the ISE Department. They are:
Anna Costa
Anna, a member of the cheerleading team, is a junior from Asheville, NC. She was a scholar-athlete for five consecutive semesters and has been Dean’s List her last four semesters with a 3.83 GPA. After graduation, Anna plans to pursue a career in industrial engineering.
Anton Ipsen
Anton, a member of the men’s swimming and diving team, is a junior from Birkeroed, Denmark. He has been Dean’s List five semesters with a perfect 4.0 GPA. He has received All-ACC and All-America Honors twice. After graduation, Anton plans on earning his master’s in Denmark in Mathematical Modeling or a master’s in Analytics from NC State. He also is considering medical school.
Aaron Thomas
Aaron, a member of the men’s track and cross country teams, is a junior from Brentwood, TN. He has been Dean’s List five semesters with a perfect 4.0 GPA. In 2014-15 and 2015-16, the ACC placed him on their Academic Honor Roll.
Alec Thomas
Alec, a member of the men’s track and cross country teams, is a junior from Brentwood, TN. He has been Dean’s List five semesters with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Ashley Williams
Ashley, a member of the women’s basketball team, is a senior from Cary, NC. She has been Dean’s List for seven semesters with a 3.95 GPA. For the last three years, the ACC named her to their Academic All-ACC Team and was the 2017 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipient. In 2016, Ashley received the ACC Kay Yow Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. The CoSIDA named her to their Academic All-District Team in 2016 and 2017. After graduation, Ashley will start her career in coaching basketball by becoming a graduate assistant this fall while attending graduate school.
At the award show, Ashley Williams received the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award which recognizes the top scholar male and female scholar athlete at each ACC institution. She was also part of the team that won the Performance of the Year Award for their stunning upset of second-ranked Notre Dame 70-62 on December 29th.
Anton Ipsen and the men’s swimming and diving team won the Chancellor’s Cup for having the highest cumulative GPA.
