Meet Distinguished Alum Hsing P. Luh

The ISE Department held its annual Alum Hall of Fame Breakfast on November 1st as part of Red and White Week and inducted five new members. Three members (George R. Auten Jr., Hsing P. Luh and Timothy Trainor) of the class of 2024 were awarded the Distinguished Alum Award, and the other two members (Lisa Cook and Natalia Summerville) received the Outstanding Young Alum Award.

Biography

Hsing P. Luh earned his Ph.D. in Operations Research from NC State University in 1992. He joined National Chengchi University (NCCU) in Taiwan, becoming a full professor in 1999 and later serving as department head and dean of science. Widely recognized for his leadership, Hsing has won multiple awards, including Taiwan’s Ministry of Education Outstanding Educational and Civil Servants Award. 

As a top Operations Research scholar, he’s held prestigious roles such as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Operations Research. Luh also fosters international collaborations, creating the 3+X degree program between NC State’s ISE Department and NCCU.
